Chimera

Paws, claws, scales, tails,
Thrashing, gnashing, whirling, twirling.
A grotesque beast, of the devil’s design,
A rotted creature, alas, it is mine.
Of this evil I own, I cannot rid myself,
In life and death, in sickness and health.
A marriage of torments, a linking of souls,
I deserve it all, I brought in these toils.
It sat on my doorstep, wicked and kind,
A mixing of spirits, I let it inside.
Something about its dichotomous state,
It exuded love just as much as hate.
I was drawn to it, I took it in,
It took over my being, it led me to sin.
This Chimera I have, it sits in my bed,
When I look in the mirror, it’s next to my head.
It’s in my heart, it’s in my hair,
I take it with me everywhere.
I see my reflection in its eyes,
A sight which made me cut off all my ties.
Ties to reality, tethers to friends,
I wish that this will never end.
